Quickacy signs three-year contract with DHL Supply Chain

DHL Supply Chain has scored an agreement another high-profile European client. The successful Swedish pharmaceutical company, Quickacy (Swedish: Snabboteket AB), signed a three-year contract with the international supply chain solutions provider.

DHL Supply Chain will responsible for the packing, distribution and warehousing of Quickacy’s pharamaceuticals which are highly temperature sensitive and will therefore be kept in special DHL Supply Chain facility in Örebro.

The logistics company has assured that its team are trained in the GDP (Good Distribution Practice) rules and will comply with such.

UPS close to final offer for TNT Express EU market shares

After TNT Express' initial rejection of a share agreement in late February, the United Parcel Service (UPS) has now been given a strict deadline by the Dutch government asking the courier to hand its final offer to buy TNT Express European market shares.

The international courier offered to pay 9 EUR per TNT Express share which added up to a total sum of 4.9 billion EUR.

However, the second-largest European parcel delivery company rejected last month's the offer. Yet, the discussions continued.

According to Bloomberg, the Dutch government has now set a date. UPS has got until 16th March to state its concrete terms and intentions.

If TNT Express decided to go forward with the sale, UPS would have a share of 17.3 percent in the EU express parcel market - only tenths away from DHL's market share.

According to the U.S. blog, Business Insider, Apple Inc has decided to ship its new iPad 3 via DHL air freight.

Apple Inc is said to have paid the freight forwarder a large sum for the delivery of its latest tablet device. The iPad 3 will be shipped from China to the USA.

Parcels to China and Vietnam: DHL launches new freighter flights

In future, it will be even easier to deliver parcels to China and Vietnam because of DHL’s latest joint venture with Yangtze River Express Ltd. The Chinese cargo airline will operate new direct flights from the DHL hub in Hong Kong to Chengdu in China and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

This is a result of the rising demand for express parcel services in busy economic centres such as Chengdu and South-western China. Each of the new five B737-300F freighters will carry a total load of 22 tons and fly out five times per week in order to deliver parcels to various parts of China and Vietnam.

UPS Parcel Service delivers reconstructed sailors' faces

Today, the UPS parcel service made and delivered history as it transported the reconstructed faces of two former sailors of the USS Monitor.

Reconstructed by the FACES lab at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, the global courier and logistics company flew the sculptures from Louisiana to Dulles airport before driving them to Washington, D.C.

UPS said that its extensive preparations had paid off. The United Parcel Service used bespoke shock-proof containers, especially engineered for this event.

The sculptures are regarded as symbols marking the beginning of ironclad naval warfare. On 9th March 1862 the USS Monitor fought the CSS Virginia just off the coast of Hampton Roads, Va. Unfortunately, the USS Monitor including the mentioned two sailors sank in a terrible storm.

With the help of UPS parcel service and LSU Faces lab, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) aims to identify the two men whose sculptured faces are now on display at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Unlike its predecessor, the DIAD IV, the new DIAD model incorporates a larger, bespoke display and appears to be lighter - with a weight of only 19 ounces and yet, it is said to be more durable.

With its new high-tech computer UPS hopes to increase the delivery of tracking information as well as its drivers’ efficiency levels.

According to UPS, the DIAD V should make it possible to track more than 16 million daily deliveries. The new device is UPS' mobile response to “technology that powers logistics”.

Its integrated camera can, for instance, be used to take pictures of damaged items and speed up customer claims.

DIAD V goes global

“What began 20 years ago as a bulky brown box with a monochrome screen has grown into a sleek, light-weight mobile device that allows UPS to be even more reliable for customers in 220 countries”, said David Barnes, chief information officer at UPS.

After initial tests back in September 2011, the parcel delivery company now decided to distribute the computer across 100 countries. By the end of 2013, 100,000 units should be used by UPS drivers worldwide.

UPS honours 5,842 Circle of Honour drivers for decades of safe driving

TNT Express N.V. rejects UPS unsolicited offer

In statement published last Friday, TNT Express N.V. confirmed its decision to reject an unsolicited proposal for share capital from UPS.

The Atlanta-based courier, UPS, offered an acquisition of the full issued share TNT capital for €9 per share. According to TNT Express, the worldwide parcel service had put down its offer on 11th February 2012.

Since then TNT Express N.V. Supervisory and Executive Boards had discussed the matter. The talks resulted in a rejection of UPS' initial proposal.

Nevertheless, the two courier companies have stated that they will continue their discussions. However, there is no certainty about a possible outcome yet.

Denmark’s EU Presidency GOGREEN with DHL

The international logistics and parcel servicesprovider, DHL, is going to become the official partner of Denmark’s EUpresidency supplying all ministers with GOGREEN services and sustainableproducts.

As part of its initiative “Sustainable Productsand CleanTech solutions”, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs was lookingfor a partner who could

As part of the White House's "Operation Enduring Opportunity" initiative, the UPS Store agreed to financially support up to 10 U.S.-American military veterans wanting to set up their own franchise establishments in new locations.

UPS Store said that it would pay out a franchise fee of $29,950 for up to 10 qualified veterans and aspiring first-time franchisees. Such will then have to sign a letter of intent until 30th June this year in order to receive the VetFran incentive.

Tim Davis, vice president of operations at UPS Store and a former Marine himself, said that the parcel delivery provider was

"(...) extremely proud of our franchisees, especially those who are military veterans. 'Operation Enduring Opportunity' will as many as 75,000 veterans and their family member find new career paths in franchising, provide them with great jobs and help boost our nation's economy."

Researchers say that there are currently about 66,000 veteran-owned franchises in the USA.

Further organisations and institutions to support Operation Enduring Opportunity include the International Franchise Association (IFA), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Mail Boxes, Inc. (MBE).

Steve Caldeira, IFA president and CEO, spoke off a multitude of training and leadership opportunities for the military veterans as well as the "need for operational excellence (...) and productive participants in the U.S. economy."

DHL CEO Frank Appel & the readiness to learn from the Eurozone Crisis

The television news channel, CNN, recently conducted an interview with Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL questioning the head of the world’s largest logistics company and parcel services provider about the collapse of the Eurozone.

When being asked about the current economic crisis, Appel stated that one could not prepare for the collapse of the Euro. However, the DHL’s CEO also made clear that his 470,000 staff in over 220 countries has to be put first.

“At the end of the day a service company is nothing more than the employees who serve the customers”, said Frank Appel. It would be crucial to give [his employees] a long-term perspective.

Beyond that, he admitted “live more cautious about the predictability of the future”. Yet, Appel pointed out that he thinks little off scenario planning.

He said that “if you think your Excel spread-sheet will tell you what will happen in the future, it will only distract you from what is really important – to be ready to take action.”

With our without the Euro, Apple agrees that at the end of the day “somebody has to deliver parcels and somebody has to deliver or transport containers around the world.”

Appel emphasised the importance of showing “a readiness to learn” despite having to do "some hardship in the beginning" in order to enable success in the European economy.

This morning the wellness expert announced the extension of its long-term partnership with the international parcel delivery and logistics company DHL. The contract is going finish at the end of 2014.

DHL is going to be trusted with the coordination and execution of Nikken's entire distribution operations. Moreover, the courier service will be responsible for any warehouse processes.

Preparing your Ski /Snowboard Package

It is recommended to put outthe following tools before starting with the packaging of your skis / snowboard:

1x roll of packaging tape
1x cardboard boxes or packaging paper, e.g. cut one or two boxes into even-sized pieces
1x padding material

Attention: Please ensure that you do not exceed the standard girth of max 330cm. The length of ski / snowboard should not exceed a maximum of 2 m and 20 cmin height. You can ship your skis / snowboard with any of the following courier services: UPS, DHL and TNT.

Packaging of Skis / Snowboards

UPS honours Ron “Big Dog” Sowder for 50 years of safe driving

“A lot has changed in 50 years. When I starteddriving for UPS, folks in cars did a better job of keeping their hands on the wheeland their eyes on the road”, said Ron “Big Dog” Sowder. The Ohio-born is thefirst UPS driver to ever pass the 50-year mark for safe driving.

After joining the parcel service and global logisticscompany in 1960 and delivering packages to businesses and private addresses,Ron Sowder drove tractor-trailers as a UPS feeder driver. He currently covers adistance of 306 miles each week between UPS head offices in Atlanta, Georgiaand the UPS Worldport in Louisville, Kentucky.

During his 50 years of service, Sowder reckonsthat he drove more than 4 million miles whilst delivering over 35 millionUPS parcels. About 5,200 active UPS drivers have had a minimum of 25years without any accidents making them members of UPS’s “Circle of Honour”.

Myron Gray, UPS president of U.S. operations,praised Sowder as an exemplary driver and role model for many UPS drivers. “Roncontinues to set and reset the gold standard for our drivers. UPS adds six cities to its Atlantic Canada expansion plan

UPS, one of the world's largest global logistics and parcel service providers, has announced to add six further locations to its Atlantic Canada expansion.

The network expansion is going to create 250 new jobs with the logistics company in Atlantic Canada. All in all, UPS' investment is going to exceed its initial figure of $215 million (2005). The parcel service provider has been working on its broad network expansion throughout the Canadian territories.

UPS Canada President, Mike Tierney, expressed his excitement about the new locations:

"This is a very exciting year for us. Adding six more cities to our expansion signifies the potential for growth we see in the Atlantic provinces."

The Atlantic Canada expansion is going to be continued in April 2012 when Monocton and Halifax will be added to the UPS network. In the second half 2012, UPS is then going to take the following cities onboard:

Saint John and Fredericton, New Brunswick; Sydney and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

By expanding its network, UPS Canada also hopes to improve its general parcel delivery across Canada.

Preparing your Bike Delivery

It is recommended to put out the following tools before starting with the packaging of their bikes**:

1x tool kit
1x roll of packaging tape
1x cutter knife
1x plastic bag / zip bag
1x cardboard bicycle box (Available at your local bicycle shop.)

Attention: Please ensure that you do not exceed the standard girth of max 330 cm. Otherwise your shipments may be classed as bulky goods. You can ship your bike with any of our Transglobal couriers: DHL, UPS, TNT, FedEx and DPD.

Packaging if Partially Dismantled

The packaging size often depends on the size of your bicycle and the chosen parcel service. Please contact your parcel delivery service directly and ask about any restrictions before sending your bike.

Firstly, remove any accessories, i.e. bike lights, bags, pumps, locks etc and place them in the plastic / zip bag.
If your chosen parcel service has advised you to partially dismantle your bike, then please start by turning around the handlebar. It should face the tip of your saddle.
Now dismantle your pedals and if necessary, remove the saddle and front wheel. Use your tool set to do so.
Once dismantled, place the pedals / saddle in your plastic bag and put the front wheel aside. You will be able to slide it into the bicycle box later.
Your plastic bag needs to be closed and glued to frame, between handlebar, cross bar and seat post, or stick it on the side of your bicycle rack (if available).
Next up, take your cardboard bicycle box and pull it over your bicycle. You may use cushioning / padding materials to prohibit the bike from moving.

The Royal Mail reported figures of over 600,000 parcels and packages being processed at its Worldwide Distribution Centre at London's Heathrow airport. The parcel volumes are currently twice as high as normal.

Down Under's growth market saw an increase of approximately 31% in November this year followed by Greece (21%), Finland (20%) and the Netherlands (20%).

Thanks to FedExExpress, a subsidiary of the world’s largest express transportation company,Tian Tian (“Sweetie”) and Yang Guang (“Sunshine”) safely touched down atEdinburgh Airport in Scotland yesterday afternoon. The eight-year-oldChinese panda couple left the Boeing 777F, also known as “FedEx Panda Express”,at approximately 1pm before heading to their new home at Edinburgh Zoo.

According to FedExExpress, the on-board dinner consisted of a mix bamboo, apples, carrots and aspecial panda cake. The panda couple was under constant surveillance of twoanimal handlers and an Edinburgh Zoo veterinarian. A custom-built enclosure byFedEx ensure the safety of the two throughout the 12-hour flight.

Captain PaulCassell said that he was “delightedto confirm that the FedEx Panda Express has safely touched down at EdinburghInternational Airport. (…) It was an absolute privilege and honor to fly TianTian and Yang Guang, and to be part of this significant moment to bring thepandas to their new home in the UK. Although every flight is unique, thisflight has been particularly special—carrying such rare animals made thejourney very exciting for all of us.”

DHL increases US prices by 5.9%

The staggering global economic crisis also seems to have taken a hit on the international logistics and express parcel delivery giant, DHL Express.

Yesterday, the carrier announced an increase of their US prices by 5.9%. The rate change is set to take place on 1st January 2012.

DHL Express, which is owned by the Deutsche Post DHL, justified the price increase due to account inflation and dramatically rising network costs.

By doing so, DHL joins other courier companies and parcel services including UPS or FedEx which were also forced to increase their - primarily air and freight - rates by 5,9 to 6.9%.

• DHL Express, subsidiary of the Deutsche Post DHL, has signed a three-year agreement with Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) in order to establish a nationwide distribution system of telecommunications in Saudi Arabia.

The global market leader in express services and parcel delivery is obliged to deliver storage and inventory solutions as well as mobile devices and spare parts across the Saudi Arabic kingdom. Moreover, DHL Express will coordinate customer service activities in a Dubai-based NSN call centre.

DHL claims that this kind of initiative would confirm significant trends in outsourcing spare parts logistics as Dirk van Doorn, Vice President, Multi-National Companies, DHL Express, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, confirms:

“(...) The key objective was to enable Nokia Siemens Network and their telecommunications client to focus on core business and competencies.”

Prospects for 2011 forecast trend growth of 5.0-6.0% this year 2010 as a whole was a year of strong recovery in air freight markets. For the full year, air freight was up by an exceptional 20.6%, however, capacity lagged far behind. As a result there was a significant improvement in load factors, with freight load factors up by 5.2% points to 53.8%.

IATA reported that the year-on-year increase for air freight (FTKs) in December was 6.7%, a higher growth rate than the revised 5.8% reported for November. If the reference months are in 2008 then FTKs in December 2010 were one-third more than in December 2008, whereas FTKs in November 2010 were 17.0% above the level reported in November 2008. Just as November might appear to have been an aberration, there is a risk that December could be too.

By December 2010, air freight was 34.0% above its low and, although 5.0% down on early 2010, was still 1.0% above the pre-recession peak level of early 2008. Comparing performance in December to November, air freight traffic increased by 1.5% on a seasonally adjusted basis.

While regional variation in freight growth rates remains particularly marked, it is necessary to put into perspective the relative size of each region and the respective impacts on industry growth rates. In particular, freight traffic carried by Asia Pacific airlines in volume terms is some 4.2 times that carried by the Middle East airlines. In fact, in December, the Asia Pacific Airlines accounted for some 45.0% of FTKs compared with just over 10.0% for the Middle East airlines.

Over the last twelve months, all regions have experienced significant variation in the reported freight growth rates. For the industry overall, the range has been between 5.8% (November 2010) and 35.2% (May 2010); for the Middle East 12.2% (November 2010) and 38.7% (May 2010); Asia Pacific 4.6% (November 2010) and 39.9% (May 2010). The greatest range of almost 60.0% was experienced by the Latin American airlines 3.8% (December 2010) and 63.0% (April 2010). There is an inevitability that reported growth rates will slow as comparisons become more onerous given that in the first half (H1) of 2010, FTKs increased at an average rate of almost 29.0%.

After a period of rapid recovery and then a small decline, freight load factors have settled down at a slightly higher level than before the downturn; yield remains a key driver in minds of airline cargo departments.

Momentum going into 2011 did not appear to be particularly strong. Gains in world trade and a stabilisation of air freight volumes point to a further upward leg to the expansion of goods shipped by air. Prospects for 2011 still seem to be consistent with air freight markets expanding close to trend growth of 5.0-6.0% this year.

Parcel Delivery Services to Europe with DHL Europlus

DHL Europlus is a highly economical road based parcel delivery and courier service operating across Europe. If you choose this service goods will be signed for at their destination, but whilst in transit goods do not have the same levels of traceability as using parcel delivery services such as the DHL Air Express. If speed and tracking is a priority for you then we would recommend using the air service.

Labelling & Documentation

Parcels being couriered using the DHL Europlus should have the full destination address and contact telephone number clearly labelled and securely attached. It is also recommend that you also attach a return address and contact telephone number as a back up.

Upon collection of your parcel your driver should leave you with a carbon copy of the delivery note which will contain a tracking number. You can use this number to track your shipment using the DHL Web Tracking Facility.

Volumetric Weight Charging

The charge of all shipments is based on either the weight or volume of the shipment. Sometimes a package may occupy a lot of space but may not weigh very much. FedEx Worldwide Parcel Delivery Service Information

FedEx is one of the worlds largest transportation companies offering worldwide parcel transportation. The main difference with the FedEx service if booking via Transglobal Express is that your goods would be collected via another carrier and brought to our warehouse before being forwarded on to FedEx. This can add an extra 2 days to the overall transit time so if speed is a priority for delivery of your parcel then we would recommend considering an alternative carrier. If you have the flexibility of allowing an extra 2 days onto the transit time, FedEx offer an excellent service - particularly to the USA, South America and to the Far East.

Collection

When booking FedEx services through Transglobal Express you have the option of either arranging delivery of your goods to a receiving center or Transglobal will arrange for a third-party courier (usually City Link) to collect and transport your goods to the Transglobal warehouse. It is important for you to check that any carrier collecting your parcel has Transglobal Express as the delivery address. If the courier transports you goods directly to their final destination you may incur extra costs for which you will be liable.

Labelling & Documentation

When using FedEx services, please lable your goods with a 'to' and 'from' address and include contact telephone numbers.

You must also include 3 copies of a commercial invoice / packing list which clearly states a full description of the goods and their value. FedEx will carry up to 32kg worldwide without restriction and most areas up to 68kg.

UPS European Parcel Delivery Service Restrictions & Information

Transglobal Express offer the following parcel delivery service through UPS:

TG Express Saver is provided by UPS using their "Worldwide Saver" service and transports your shipment by air.
TG Expedited is a cheaper but slightly slower air service than "Worldwide Saver". If you need your parcel delivering and speed is not a priority then you can make some great savings using this service.
TG Express is provided by UPS using their Transborder Standard service. This is a road service which delivers throughout Europe.

Labelling & Documentation

If you have booked your UPS service through Transglobal Express you will be emailed a bar-coded UPS which must be printed and a copy securely attached to each package. Manual airway bills can not be provided by the driver on this service so it is important that you have access to a printer.

Invoices - If you are sending your package or parcel to a non-EU country it must be accompanied by 3 copies of a commercial invoice or packing list. A list of EU countries can be accessed by following this link. Any country not listed here will require a commercial invoice.

Volumetric Weight Charging

The charge of your shipment is calculated based upon its weight or volume. Sometimes bulky items may be charged at a higher rate than the actual weight of the shipment due to the dimensions of the item.

Surcharges and Additional Costs

The below information outlines any additional costs which may apply to your shipment depending on a number of factors. All surcharges related to EU deliveries will be subject to VAT.

UPS Extended Area Collection & Delivery Charge - this is the UPS equivalent of a 'Remote Area Surcharge'. This will be applied if either your collection or delivery address is considered to be in a remote area. The extended area surcharge is a minimum of £13.50 + fuel per shipment or £0.25 per kg, whichever is greater. To view a list of all UPS extended area definitions, please follow this link.
UPS Residential Delivery Surcharge - A cost of £2.00 per shipment is charged if delivery is to be made to home. This also applies if delivery is being made to a business operating from home.
Address Correction - a charge of £4.55 per shipment will be applied if any part of the address is missing or incorrect.
Incorrect Account Number - a cost of £8.00 per shipment will be charged if your account number is missing or invalid.
Additional Handling - an additional charge of £2.45 per package is applied on any article that is not in a cardboard box or:

is encased in an outside shipping container made of metal or wood
is cylindrical (such as a tyre / drum / pail or barrel) and not fully encased in a corrugated cardboard shipping container
any package with the longest side exceeding 150cm or its second longest side exceeding 78cm
a package with an actual weight greater than 32kgs
each package within a shipment where the average weight per package is greater than 32kgs and the weight for each package is not specified on the source document or the UPS automated shipping system used.

Additional Handling - any article that is above the girth* of 330cm or above 70kg will incur an additional fee of £27 per package.
DDP Shipments - an additional fee of £12 + duty & tax value is applied on any shipment in which the destination duties and taxes are not paid by the consignee and are billed back to the shipper.

Maximum Size & Weight Allowance Restrictions

The maximum weight per parcel is 70kg to most areas and 30kg to some others
The maximum size per package is 330cm girth
The maximum length per package is 270cm

TNT Economy Express European Delivery Service Restrictions

The TNT Economy Express service is a worldwide parcel delivery service of which the level and rates are particularly competitive throughout Europe and including Eastern block areas.

Parcel Labelling & Documentation

Airway Bill - TNT Economy Express services can be booked directly through the website. A copy of your Airway bill must be attached to each individual parcel.

If you book the service through Transglobal Express you can take advantage of their discounted rates making TNT Economy Express a very cost-effective parcel delivery service. Once your booking has been made, Transglobal Express will generate the airway bill on you behalf and email it through to you to be printed and attached to each parcel.

If you do not have access to a printer your driver can supply you with a manual airway bill which must be completed by hand. If this is the case you must tick the appropriate "TNT Economy Express" service. You will be liable for additional charges if any other service is selected. If booking through Transglobal Express, you must also insert their customer account number which can be obtained from customer services.

Shipments bound for non EU countries will need to be accompanied by 3 copies of a commercial invoice/packing list. This should include a full description and value of your goods and customs will use this information when they conduct their security checks.

Volumetric Weight Charging
