The courier company hopes that its customers will “enjoy more time to prepare [their] shipments.” Michael Chu, FedEx Taiwan managing director, confirmed that
“despite a challenging economic environment in Europe, Taiwan remains a strong trading partner with the EU and trade between the two markets in 2011 climbed more than 10% year-on-year.”
Last year US$2.9 million worth of goods alone were shipped from Taiwan to Africa and Europe positions itself amongst the Taiwan’s top 5 largest business partners.

Parcels to China and Vietnam: DHL launches new freighter flights

In future, it will be even easier to deliver parcels to China and Vietnam because of DHL’s latest joint venture with Yangtze River Express Ltd. The Chinese cargo airline will operate new direct flights from the DHL hub in Hong Kong to Chengdu in China and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

This is a result of the rising demand for express parcel services in busy economic centres such as Chengdu and South-western China. Each of the new five B737-300F freighters will carry a total load of 22 tons and fly out five times per week in order to deliver parcels to various parts of China and Vietnam.

Beyond that, the international courier, DHL, has promised to offer the following parcel services: evening pick-up and next-day delivery with 10pm being the latest collection time.

Yesterday, the UPS Foundation announced that it is going to give 120 grants worth $ 6 million to national and international NGOs supporting a wide range of different programmes. Behind this initiative lies the parcel express company’s aim to support diversity and diverse communities around the globe.

Moreover, the NGOs receiving the grant have been carefully selected by the UPS Foundation. Amongst others, UPS is going to support wounded veterans, women and girls, culturally distinct ethical groups such as Native American citizens and disabled persons.
“Supporting diversity is the largest area of our funding. We have long sought to help bridge opportunity gaps in areas like education, leadership, mentorship and advocacy”, said Ken Sternad, the UPS Foundation president.
Beyond that, the express parcel delivery and logistics company hopes to improve the lives of many disadvantaged and create new educational and employment opportunities.

The selected non-profit organisations and community groups include:
  • the National Urban League
  • 100 Black Men of America
  • Native American students of the American Indian College Fund and Brigham Young University
  • as well as the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
A full list of the NGOs supported by the UPS Foundation as well as their allocated grants can be found on the UPS website
